An article published on 20th January 2015 in ‘Nutritional Neuroscience’ reports improvements in fatigue and depression in people with Multiple Sclerosis who supplemented with coenzyme Q10. Participants received 500 milligrams CoQ10 per day for 12 weeks. Researchers at Tehran University school of Medical Sciences observe that depression has long been thought to be accompanied by neuro-degeneration (loss of brain cells) and inflammation which plays a role in fatigue, and that the antioxidant & anti-inflammatory activity of CoQ10 may suppress these pathways.
The researchers note that previous research has shown improvement in fatigue and physical performance in association with the intake of 300 mg CoQ10, though 100mg was not enough to make a difference. Remember that CoQ10 can't be use with anticoagulants or just before surgery due to its blood thinning effect. There are many factors that impact on symptom expression in MS, so to discuss your needs call Sunshine Coast Nutritionist and Kinesiologist Karen Emans on 0408748532
