A study reported in the British Journal of Nutrition August 2015 reported that Black Elderberry extract reduces inflammation in obesity. Previously, studies have shown that dietary anthocyanins found in purple fruits and vegetables may reduce systemic inflammation, and reduce obesity-related medical complications. Black elderberry extract is an abundant source of anthocyanins, & was investigated for its potential to affect markers of inflammation at the University of Connecticut, USA. Mice were fed a high fat diet & then some were supplemented with 0.25% black elderberry extract for 16 weeks. At the end of the study period, animals in the elderberry supplemented group had significantly lower liver weight, triglycerides, & monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 – an inflammatory marker linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes, as compared to the animals fed the high-fat diet alone. Of course there are many causes of inflammation in the body, which results in fatigue, pain and brain fog.
